Transport and Safety
The Education Authority has a policy of free transport for all pupils who live a mile or more from the school. Pupils who live within a mile of the school, may use transport if space is available, but may be asked to pay. Any pupils who require transport on medical grounds should contact the Education Department and produce a medical certificate at the earliest possible date, to allow adequate arrangements to be made.
Bus operators are responsible for the safety and good conduct of the pupils who travel with them. Parents are asked to stress the importance of wearing seat belts to pupils. Parents must inform the school if they wish their child/ren to travel on an unscheduled route.
In adverse weather conditions, when the school is unable to open, every effort will be made to inform parents via local Radio.
Any inquiries about travel and transport should be made to Douglas Reid, Lionacleit Education Centre, Benbecula (Tel: 01870 60 2043).
The Head Teacher ensures that a Health and Safety Inspection of the School and its grounds, is carried out annually. Any faults are reported immediately to Technical Services
Fire Drills take place each term. Notices showing procedure are posted in all areas of the school.
Children are constantly reminded of the need for safety on the roads. The local policeman visits to discuss road safety and prepares upper-primary pupils in their cycling proficiency.
