Personal And Social Development

Children and young adults often need help and support in their daily life. In Paible, we do our best to raise self-esteem and self-confidence by encouraging and praising pupils at every opportunity. We try to involve our pupils in the decision making process (See Our Rules). Pupils are encouraged to participate in our School Assemblies, thereby gaining self confidence in front of an audience.
A more formal approach to Guidance takes place in S1 and S2. The general aims of Guidance are:
- Personal - which deals with personal and social
development.
- Curricular - where advice is given towards the end
of S2 on recommended subjects and
courses for S3.
- Career - which assists the pupils in making an
informed choice for the future, taking
into account ability, attainment and
personal characteristics.
We aim to support pupils by meeting with them individually or in small groups to discuss any concerns or suggestions they may have. A weekly meeting (Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher and P.S.D. Teacher) is held to support and review pupils’ development and a ‘Suggestion Box’ in the foyer gives pupils the opportunity to make comments privately and anonymously.
We try to develop the spiritual and moral values of our pupils in a number of ways.
Regular assemblies, where pupils contribute through singing, reading prayer and presentation of a religious theme or topic. The four Primary classes and two secondary classes are involved on a rota basis.
In Primary, Religious Education is offered on a daily or weekly basis. This ranges from simple Bible stories to more detailed project work. All programmes relate directly to the
5 – 14 curriculum
At S1 and S2 level, pupils receive one hour of Religious Education each week. The main focus is Christianity, but various Jewish festivals (i.e. Shabbat, Passover) are also studied.
Parents should IMMEDIATELY inform the school if they feel that their child may be a subject of bullying behaviour. Complaints will be taken seriously and appropriate action will follow. The pupils should be encouraged to discuss any incidents or worries/problems of this nature with their Guidance Teacher or Contact person at an early stage.
Parents should keep a written record of any incidents regarding, WHO, WHAT, WHERE AND WHEN. This will help the school in dealing with the situation and in devising strategies which will help the child and provide her/him with support inside and outside the school.
Advice sheets are issued to Parents and Pupils at the commencement of each school session
