School News 2007-2008
Welcome to Term 1.
On Monday 29 October, staff and pupils at Paible School took time off lessons to switch on their new wind turbine- won by Primary 7 pupils back in session 2005/06 in a Western Isles Energy Competition.

The turbine, a Proven 2.5kw model is connected to the school internal electricity grid and its design is well suited to the local conditions. Output of electricity is metered and will be recompensed to the school at approximately 3.5p per unit. Its real value will be of course as a teaching aid.
Visit to BBC HQ
Four ex-pupils from Paible School flew to Glasgow for the day on Wednesday 19th September to collect an award for their contribution to the BBC School News Report project which took place last March.
Nadine Froughi, Kayleigh Petrie, Rory Maclure and Calum
Paterson were accompanied by Fiona Campbell, English teacher and Celia Macsween, Auxilliary, on a whistle-stop tour of the new BBC HQ at Pacific Quay in Glasgow. They partook in a Q and A session with Fiona Hyslop, had their photograph taken with some of the cast of ‘River City’ and were then presented with an award at a special ceremony.
As school days go, this one was certainly different and definitely more tiring but wouldn’t it be a lovely idea if we all got a chance to do something like this at least once a year!
Archaeological Dig at Baleshare
On the morning of Tuesday 28th August, S1 and S2 pupils visited the archaelogical dig on Baleshare. They saw the Iron Age houses

that the archaeologist have uncovered and were given a guided tour of the site.
Eight pupils stayed behind with their teacher Mrs. Catherine MacLeod and helped at the site for the remainder of the day digging up more finds and uncovering new houses.

The pupils are indebted to Kate Macdonald and all her helpers for allowing them to have such an enjoyable day away from the classroom.
