The story starts in a modern day school.

Modern day School

The pupils are bored and when Mr Nicholls, the new English teacher, decides to let the class work on a play by Charles Dickens he is met with opposition.  He persuades the pupils that by turning it into a musical it just might be fun.  There are only two things standing in their way - an old fashioned Drama mistress and the Headmaster.
They get the Headmaster on side by offering him the starring role of Mr Squeers.  Soon we are transported back in time and find the Headmaster as the evil Mr Squeers in London trying to find new boys for his run down school near Greta Bridge in Yorkshire.

Snawley,Ralph Nicklby, Nickleby discuss terms

He and his wife and family give the boys a hard time.  They are starved and have to do all the household chores while the family do nothing.

Squeers family

They have one boy there called Smike who has no family and is treated worse than all the others and is only given refuge in return for working so hard until he believes that there is no hope for him.

Have you heard anything about my family?
A new teacher arrives, the son of a gentleman, who befriends him and gives him some encouragement.
The boys eventually turn on the family and secure their release.
Our musical finishes back in the present with all the pupils wondering if it had really happened.

This performance was a team effort involving pupils, staff and members of the community and the cast would like to thank Mr Macdonald and staff for all their support and all who helped in any way.
