- Language Presentation
This year’s presentation by the S2 class was totally pupil-led, from beginning to end!
At the beginning of the term, we looked at the CfE outcomes for 3rd and 4th level Literacy and looked at the remit for the presentation evening (Audience of adults, must be informative and entertaining). The pupils identified the most relevant outcomes and skills, which included: research; note-making; organisation; presentation; group and solo talk skills.
Topics were then chosen based on the pupils’ own interests and narrowed down to specific areas which would be easier to manage. Pupils were randomly selected for groups and each group took responsibility for one subject.
Skimming, scanning and research skills were revisited before the pupils began their investigations, and the next couple of weeks saw them accessing information from a variety of sources and media.
Once sufficient information had been gathered, groups then began to plan for the two aspects of their presentation – the powerpoint-assisted talk and the written display. A date, time and format was agreed on for the evening and invitations were designed and issued.
The next week was spent organising talks, preparing powerpoint slides and palm cards and designing display boards.
On the evening itself, pupils brought in home baking and arranged refreshments for guests. There was an excellent turnout for the presentations and for once, there were no technical hitches. Even the volcano erupted as planned!
After the talks, the audience took time looking at the displays and discussing the topics with the pupils. Feedback forms were issued and these were filled out during the tea/coffee slot.
Verbal and written feedback was resoundingly positive and all who attending were impressed by the depth of the learning which had obviously taken place and the confidence and behaviour of the pupils.
Secondary French classes celebrated European Day of languages on 26th September by practising greetings in different languages- not all from Europe! Listen and watch them.
