La Fourmi
S1 have been presenting a poem about a giant ant (“La Fourmi” by Robert Desnos).

Une fourmi de dix-huit mètres
Avec un chapeau sur la tête,
Ça n’existe pas, ça n’existe pas

Une fourmi traînant un char
Plein de pingouins et canards,
Ça n’existe pas, ça n’existe pas

Une fourmi parlant français,
Parlant latin et javanais,
Ça n’existe pas, ça n’existe pas
Eh !  Pourquoi pas ?

An eighteen-metre ant
Wearing a hat on its head
Does not exist, does not exist

An ant pulling a cart
Full of ducks and penguins
Does not exist, does not exist

An ant speaking French,
Speaking Latin and Javanese,
Does not exist, does not exist
Eh!  Why on earth not?

The learning objective here was to focus on the negative (“That doesn’t exist”).   Thanks to Iain MacBain for his ‘negative’ contribution!

Christmas Boxes

S1 pupils have been involved in a cross- curricular topic to produce Christmas boxes of sweets and chocolates. It involved Maths, Technical and H.E. Departments working together. In maths they investigated different shapes to find which one gave them the largest volume and the best shape for their chosen sweets. They drew the net of the shape which they then used in the Technical Department to develop their box using PowerPoint to add tabs, text and graphics. In H.E. they researched different kinds of sweets to find the most suitable for their box, ordered and costed ingredients, prepared and packaged their sweets. Have a look at them in the H.E. room

Watch those Adverts!

In their Literacy class, S1 have created their own advertisements
based on telephone competitions (where the cost of the call is glossed over very quickly at the end).  They presented them to Mrs Matheson's class, to alert them to the dangers of clicking too quickly on the "Enter Competition" tab on the computer!

S1 have made a short video clip about Hallowe'en to share with their French friends.

Secondary French classes celebrated European Day of languages on 26th September by practising greetings in different languages- not all from Europe! Listen and watch them.

Look back at what S1 did in 2008-2009
