The RNLI and Grace Darling has been our topic focus for the first part of term 3. Click on link to see some of our activities. We used the RNLI website to find out about the work of the RNLI. This included the different boats used for rescues and the clothes they wear. Their website was full of excellent information and games. We found out who Grace Darling was and why she became famous. We discovered that her life in Victorian times was very different to ours in 2010 when we compared them both. We had great fun acting out the rescue of the SS Forfarshire by Grace and her father, William, and each had a part to play. Musical instruments were used to create a stormy atmosphere. To find out about Grace, visit www.rnli.org.uk.

P1-4 are very busy learning about a topic they are all experts in......toys!! So far, we have classified toys, written about our favourite toys, learnt about the materials toys are made from, and even set up our own class toy shop. P1 and 2 have also made a magic toy box . We’ll keep you posted about what happens when we start to use it!!
Have a look at our slideshows to find out more.
Room 5 welcomed 4 new P1’s this session. Alfie, Shaun, Katie and Iona have been very busy learning their sounds.
Primary 1 & 2 were all familiar with the story of the Na Tri Mucan Beaga/ Three Little Pigs and with their knowledge of the story conducted their own experiment into the best material for building a house! All the groups tried each material in turn and decided that wood and stone would be best for Uist!
All P1-6 looked at our own planet Earth and our position in the solar system, the Milky Way. We decided to create our own planets
and show the order they lie from the sun. We used balloons, paper mache and a great deal of paint! Our planets are on display in the science lab.
Primary one and Primary seven pupils have joined together as a “One …. Seven buddy” group. The older pupils will share the responsibility of creating a positive ethos of respect, trust and support. They will be encouraged to make a positive contribution to the wellbeing of each individual child. The pupils will change buddies during Term 3. This new initiative within the primary will address issues within Health and Wellbeing across the curriculum. The group will meet regularly with Mrs Matheson to discuss various social and emotional issues.Active Learning
