CfE Eastern Europe Focus

Curriculum for Excellence

On Monday 5th and Thursday 7th  November, staff and pupils of Paible School took part in a cross-curricular project which incorporated our annual enterprise activity of the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal.
The project was given the title of ‘Eastern Europe Focus’ and involved P1-6 pupils working in classrooms and P7 pupils joining S1/S2 for the two days. The secondary departments of RME, Language, Social Subjects, Technology, Home Economics, Physical Education, Art and Music adopted the new Curriculum for Excellence approach to planning including learning outcomes and success criteria and found the experience most valuable in terms of preparation and training for the new 3-18 Curriculum.

Pupils enjoyed the experiences which involved a live link with Blythswood Care worker, Charlie Macleod, who has visited Romania over 30 times in the last 8 years. On Thursday, pupils from our school had a live webcam link, via Skype, with pupils in a local school in Romania. Two of our pupils, John Alex and Alice danced a Boston Two-Step for them while two of their girls performed a local dance for us.

The focus culminated with an Eastern European Buffet beautifully prepared by the pupils assisted by Ms Christine Baxter and Cirsty MacInnes.

The focus days concluded with a whole school assembly led by Rev Iain MacAskill where he gave a presentation showing what happens to the Shoeboxes that have been donated. Primary 5-7 helped fill Uist Parcel Service Van with the 100 Shoeboxes boxes which the school with the help of Kilmuir Church had collected.
