Land Rover has angered Stornoway citizens after making a colour called Stornoway grey. A spokesman for Land Rover said Stornoway had replaced a previous colour scheme called Bonatti Grey.

The spokesman said "Far from damaging tourism to the island the use of Stornoway Grey will help keep it on the map. A local councilor has called Land Rover to rename it Silvery Stornoway.Land Rover decided to call one of its new silver colours Stornoway grey. “It’s a pretty nice colour, and grey silver is one of the most popular colors available said a Land Rover’s representative, so it is a bit of a surprise that the citizens of the town of Stornoway rang up land rover saying it should change the name post haste. Representing Stornoway, Western Isles councilor, Angus Nicholson, feels the name might harm the town's image because tourists might make the association between “grey” and “dull” or “boring”. Mr. Nicholson thinks “silvery Stornoway” has a nicer ring to it.

Land Rover responded by saying Stornoway grey is one of the best selling colours and by using the name is keeping Stornoway on the map. The automaker actually thinks that using the name keeps people aware of the town. Is there such thing as bad publicity?
