BBC School Report

Background

BBC News School Report gives 12 and 13-year-olds around the UK the chance to make their own news at school and to broadcast it via the internet.

Using materials from the BBC News School Report website, and with support from BBC staff, teachers will help students develop their journalistic skills, and become School Reporters.

Then on 22 March 2007, schools around the country will take part in BBC School Report News Day - creating their own news reports and publishing or broadcasting them on school web pages. The BBC will also be making reports on what the children are doing including what they think about the news.

Eventually every secondary school in the country may want to take part but 2006/2007 is a pilot year.

The school will ensure that children taking part in the project will be accompanied by a member of school staff at all times.

The children’s work will go on school web pages. The BBC aims to link to the school web pages from the BBC website. The BBC also intends to report on children’s activities in some schools, broadcasting them on radio, TV and online or in any other way the BBC chooses. This is so people around the country can see and hear about the news children think is important and so that other schools can find out about the project.
